Azores Blackbird 烏鶇 (Pico Island)

I recorded the Azores blackbird on Pico Island at dawn in June 2025. Pico is a small island with a population of just 14,000 people, and more blackbirds than people. The blackbirds there look very similar to the common blackbirds we see and hear in the UK, but they sound quite different. That’s how I discovered that the blackbirds on Pico are actually a subspecies of the common blackbird. Their song is incredibly musical, so I created an accompaniment to complement their beautiful singing in this piece.
